    A Saddened Heart

What is wrong with this world? I found myself asking that a lot today. Especially with the politicians we have in office.

More and more, I find it difficult to leave my knees. Not from old age, I am only twenty-five. No, I find it hard to leave my knees because of the state in which our country has put herself. I am on my knees in prayer. While I tend to avoid political soapboxes, (Xanga is where I come to relax and read other people's opinions. I like to "hear" real people's opinions; I am not big on the misguided media.) I felt I needed to plead with anyone who comes across this blog to pray.

As I see the recent state of events, I weep for America's future. The recent tragedy in South Carolina is the affair of Governor Mark Sanford. Let's add to that the current plan to socialize our country, starting with healthcare.

Again, I am not saying this to start a fight. I am only pointing out a need for prayer. I want to ask for fellow Christians to pray for our nation. That we may have strong leaders to lead us in the right direction. That we may be the nation our forefathers wanted us to be. That we will not turn our backs on Israel. Pray for wisdom for our leaders.

And may God have mercy on us.

How to Handle the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Let me begin by saying that what I am about to describe may not work for you.

Now, today I had a bad day. And not just any bad day, oh no, this was a horrible, no good, very bad day, an 'I lived up to my blonde hair color' day.

I started out by forgetting some very important papers at home. (Can't have an exam without say...the exam!) I got all the way to school and clocked in, only to clock out and go get the papers. So when I get back my kids are... rowdy, rambunctious, destructive (I could go on, but all that would get a work out would be the thesaurus). And that's to say the least. So I get them all calmed down taking the exams and I am working out grades for report cards. And the principal calls me out to talk about end of the school awards (perfect attendance, character, etc.). I come back into chaos.

After school is over, the principal calls me into his office to discuss why I do not have better control over my kids. *sigh* I tried to explain to him that was simply because they were out of my supervision for a moment. You know, "when the cat's away, the mice will play." Needless to say, he was not amused or impressed. I am currently wondering if my contract will be renewed. (This is not my first offense. I caught a student cheating off another. And... it's just a host of little problems that maybe I'm not the best..."fit" for the school.) (I may just be too close to their age for me to teach, according to him.) Great. So, if I wasn't looking for a job before, I certainly am now.

Oh, and my ex-boyfriend won't leave me alone. (Lying, cheating little heel who has anger management issues!)

So I go home depressed. And eat half a half-gallon of cookie dough ice cream. Great, now, I've got image issues too. Wonderful!
So when you've had a bad day like mine, how do you deal with it? I tried the "drown it in ice cream." Failure. I've tried "Distract yourself." Abject failure.
And now, I just had one of my best friends text me something really sweet. All it made me want to do is cry.

But here is what worked: I opened my Bible to the book of Psalms. Psalm 56, to be exact. This was written by David as he was running away from Saul (who was trying to kill him) and the Philistines (the enemies of his entire nation who wanted him dead). Now, have I had it as bad as David? Umm... that would be a no. If God was in control then, isn't He now? If He managed David's rather large issue, can't He handle my piddly little complaints?

As I said, this may not work for everyone, but it sure is working for me!

  • What is the most beautiful thing in the world to you?

This was a featured question from ages ago back when I was banned from my computer. (Apparently, I was too attached.) Anyway, as you might have guessed, my ban was repealed and I have access again. And no, my computer is not the most beautiful thing in the world to me.

As an artist, I try to see the beauty in the mundane every day. Sometimes, I succeed. Others, I don't. But, I have two things I find more beautiful than anything. One is the Cross. I can't help but see the beauty in a simple cross. To think of what it means to me... words fail me. And anyone who knows me will say that being dumbfounded does not happen often to me. The second is a smile. And maybe this is just me, but smiles are becoming more and more rare. Everyone's smiles are different and each one a work of art. Yes, even those gross toothless ones (thinking of Enchanted's old homeless man) are beautiful. Think of it. A smile is a part of yourself you share with the world.

Anyway, just a thought, but how many people have you smiled at/have seen smile today?

What is your favorite painting, and why do you love it?

Having been an art student raised by an art student, I have seen my share of paintings. When I was young, my mom would pull out her art history books and show me all these different paintings. And as I grew older, my favorite painting changed. At first, it was Renoir's "Girls at the Piano." Then, it became van Gogh's "Starry Night." And while that one remains a favorite, I believe I prefer Monet's "Japanese Footbridge."

When I look at the painting, I feel peaceful. I am left with a sense of calm and wonder. And that's why I prefer Impressionists over the abstract. Abstract disturbs, but Impressionism quells the chaos.

  • What are 10 things you want to see, do, and/or experience in your lifetime?

I've really had to give this a lot of thought. I mean, I graduated from college three years ago as of May 10th, and I am not currently doing anything with my degree. (It was in Graphic Design. I am a school teacher.) It caused me to do some soul-searching.

    10. I want to see the Great Wall of China.

    9. Finish the comicbook I've been writing.

    8. Get all my friends from college together at the same time. (I can only get half of them together at any one time!)

    7. Get my master's in art history.

    6. Teach art history at a college level.

    5. Go back to Germany to revisit where I spent my first years of grade school.

    4. See a Nebraska Cornhuskers football game in Memorial Stadium.

    3. Visit every mainstream amusement park in the country, possibly the world.

    2. See George Strait in concert and/or get the comicbook that one of my friends (another artist) wrote about his crazy group of friends published. (It is seriously hysterical! It mocks just about everything. And nothing is sacred. Not even a friend's obsession with Johnny Depp.)

    1. Teach art and history (separately) at a high school level.
